in my mind – nicosongs

The verdict

nicosongs captures raw emotion and undeniable momentum with 'in my mind', a brilliantly collaborative melbourne pop moment

'in my mind' came together in just three hours in a melbourne studio, nicosongs crafting melodies and lyrics while producer sb90 built the instrumental in real time. you can hear that chemistry in the finished track, it's got a great groove, commercial facing but with a atmospheric underground feel. the track's already been picked for timbaland's global talent search 2026, but it's the chorus that really soars here. a striking, confident and impressive single.

nicosongs is a melbourne, australia based artist building a distinctive space in the independent scene with emotionally driven productions that blend theatrical intensity with atmospheric depth. heavily influenced by lady gaga's bold approach to songwriting, he channels that same fearless energy into his own vision. he's already performed at notable melbourne venues including the workers club, and opened for sam perry, winner of the voice australia 2018. it's a lot of momentum for an artist just getting started.

dopamine – weekend millionaires

The verdict

weekend millionaires arrive with 'dopamine', a sharp and propulsive indie rock debut built on hooks and adrenaline

'dopamine' opens with a guitar riff soaked in delay, it cuts through in style. then maisie's vocal lands, honest and personal, asking 'do you know what this is?' and aiming right down the headphones at the listener. i love the songcraft on show here; a lot of stuff in this world just goes on a bit, but this has a kind of sharpness that keeps everything rocking. asbo magazine called it 'a lean, instantaneous shot of pure adrenaline' and that's about right. it's a confident, propulsive debut.

weekend millionaires are a three-piece from sheffield, england, with maisie on vocals, josh on guitar and eric on bass. they came together over a shared frustration with the lack of guitar-driven pop and rock in the current landscape, pulling from britpop and indie traditions while keeping the songwriting direct and melodic. 'dopamine' is their first single, and it lands like a band who've been waiting a while to say something. that more of this please, it's fab.

open to you – shelita

The verdict

shelita delivers a velvet-smooth r&b moment with 'open to you', sensual and completely irresistible

'open to you' is built on warmth, a laid-back groove that settles in somewhere around your chest and stays there. the production keeps has a great groove to it, all soft edges and late-night atmosphere, while shelita's vocal floats through with an ease that makes vulnerability sound effortless. lyrically it's about letting your guard down, that moment when you stop fighting what you're feeling and just let it happen. there's a playfulness underneath the sensuality, and it definitely slow-dance-in-the-kitchen-at-2am track, or a windows-down drive with nowhere particular to be. intimate, polished, and great.

shelita is a los angeles based pop and r&b artist who's built her sound from a life spent moving between continents and oceans. raised in seattle, she left for europe to tour and found her audience along the way, going viral on social media and amassing over 20 million streams. she's hit number 10 on billboard and earned praise from npr and forbes. when she's not writinging with whale sharks. that spirit shows up here in the music, fantastically adventurous but grounded.
