slow slow slow – james tabbi
The verdict
“james tabbi steps into solo territory with 'slow slow slow', a stunning synth-driven post-punk meditation on surrender”
'slow slow slow' opens with the kind of atmospheric synth work that only comes from a lovely set of synths and an even better set of ears. co-produced with ben hillier, whose work with depeche mode and blur needs no introduction, the track builds a physical, architectural space around tabbi's voice. it's a song about giving in to an emotional current, about the moment resistance finally breaks, and you can hear that tension tbroughout. the synths shimmer wonderfully, the textures build, and there's a vulnerability threaded through the whole thing that never tips into melodrama. spin called his work 'suave, synth-driven britpop that shimmers with nostalgia', and this single earns every word of that. it's a melancholic, beautifully weighted listen.
james tabbi is a rochester, new york based multi-instrumentalist, producer and recording engineer, best known as lead singer of acclaimed post-punk duo the heroic enthusiasts. 'slow slow slow' marks his first solo release, the debut single from his forthcoming album a temporary resident, due next year on meridian via ecr music group. it's an absolute vibe, a fresh creative direction, and we're lapping it up. a gem.
thank u for making this james tabbi 🌊
