'loss of control' is a twelve-track debut that refuses to sit still. the album opens in familiar 90s indie rock territory, all distorted guitars and driving rhythms, but it keeps finding new rooms to wander into. there's grunge weight here, shoegaze texture there, and then a jazz fusion angle which kinda arrives like a lovely old friend who showed up unannounced. the funk influences thread through without ever feeling forced, and the americana undertones give the whole thing a sense of place even when the sound is at its most restless. what holds it together is the songwriting itself, a keen melodic instinct, ably shown on 'loss of contol'. it's kinda feel over formula, scratchy guitar from heaven and enough art school vibe to keep things cool. it's an ambitious debut that earns its runtime.
tv blackout is the project of ypsilanti, michigan singer and guitarist brian ross, originally founded in 2021 and reformed in late 2025 with a new line-up. ayman karmi brings jazz sensibilities to the drums, phil rinke anchors things on bass with a background spanning orchestral to heavy metal, and gwen katherine adds the layered guitar textures that thicken the sound into something properly immersive. the band's aim is to make music that sticks with you in ways you can't quite name. that's a tough balance on a debut, and they've nailed it.
