hit different – uzisky
The verdict
“uzisky's 'hit different' is a stunning late-night blend of rap, r&b and rock, restless and intimate”
'hit different' opens in moody, low-lit territory and stays there, building through rap verses into melodic hooks that hit with real weight. there's rock guitar threaded through it, drums that push wonderfully, and a french-language bridge that lifts the whole thing somewhere unexpected. add in a poem uzisky wrote herself, translated by soraya archimbaud, and the song hits as a message on wanting to be fully loved without losing yourself in the process, and that tension runs right through the arrangement. it's dark, intimate, reflective, and it earns its late-night atmosphere.
uzisky is a houston-based, nigerian-rooted independent artist, singer, rapper and creative who moves between alternative r&b, rap and wherever else the song needs to go. her music digs into identity, intimacy, self-discovery and the mess of being human, all without trying to fit neatly into anyone else's idea of what she should sound like. she makes music for the misfits and the deep feelers, the ones who've been told they're too different or not enough. boxes are for objects, not people, that's the line she works from. we love this one.

molly – ricky’s rebel rabble
The verdict
“ricky's rebel rabble turn personal grief into a wonderfully warm, catchy pop rock tribute that wears its heart completely on its sleeve”
'molly' is a tribute song done right, written for an aunt who stepped in when no one else could. released in 2019, the single carries real weight beneath its retro guitar pop surface, a track where you can hear exactly why it mattered to the person who made it. producer nick andrew brings a polished touch to the recording, letting the melody do the heavy lifting while the arrangement stays crisp and full. there's a t.rex quality running through it, glam-adjacent without ever tipping into pastiche, and the vocal delivery sits warm and direct at the centre. it's a lovely, heartfelt pop rock single.
ricky's rebel rabble are a watford, england collective built around deeply personal songwriting and charitable purpose. the lineup runs deep: ricky on lead guitar and songwriting, alice randall co-writing and promoting, nick andrew handling bass and production, rich spoons producing, gary sanford on drums, and billy henagan on vocals. all funds from their releases go to help musicians and scope, which we love. new single 'going home in the rain', co-written with alice randall, is on the way. this one's a real beauty.
