inner child ft. emmie te pas – d'z
The verdict
“d'z and emmie te pas craft a lush, cinematic reminder that childhood wonder never really leaves us”
'inner child' opens with an arrangement that feels like stepping through a doorway into somewhere gentler. featured vocalist emmie te pas delivers lyrics about rediscovering playfulness and simplicity, the parts of ourselves that get buried under the noise of adult life. d'z builds the production beautifully, layering jazz, latin and world influences into an incredibly put together groove. i love it. the whole thing plays like a short film score for a memory you forgot you had, warm and fully danceable. it's a beautiful, transportive listen.
d'z is an arnhem, netherlands based composer, drummer and producer with an impressive collection of awards behind him, including the aee music awards' best jazz single for 'one' and the intercontinental music awards' best song of europe in the european jazz genre for both 'sunlight' and 'flow'. his reimagined version of george michael's 'freedom' featuring sandra st. victor picked up nine nominations and awards. as a non-vocalist, d'z approaches each project by finding exactly the right voice for the song, and that instinct shows here. exciting stuff, and an essential track this week.
thank u for making this d'z 🌱
