room on fire – fernando's eyes

The verdict

“fernando's eyes strips post-punk to its bones on 'room on fire', a stunning and focused solo follow-up”

'room on fire' opens with the best mood, all programmed drums, locked tight and a great guitar line. there's a brilliant tension running through the whole track. and when lina langendorf's saxophone appears midway through, this one starts to soar. it's post-punk with dream pop undertones, and just the best synths. this is the first new material since the 2025 album 'center of your world', and it signals a shift in how fernando honorato works when he's building something from scratch. the arrangement is spare where it needs to be, and broader when it needs to be . it's a brilliant single.

fernando's eyes is the solo project of fernando honorato, stockholm-based founder and vocalist of swedish post-punk band principe valiente. that band has been running since 2005, building a catalogue that includes 'choirs of blessed youth', 'oceans' and 'barricades', with the dreamier 'in this light' arriving in 2024. now working outside that framework, fernando is preparing a full solo album that promises a more personal and experimental direction. there's a real vision here, and the sound to match. fantastic stuff.

thank u for making this fernando's eyes 🔥
