we are chaos – the graceland conspiracy
The verdict
“the graceland conspiracy build a gorgeous, spacious dream-pop debut where distortion gives way to something unexpectedly tender”
'we are chaos' drifts in on acoustic guitar, saturated, distant synth, and an opening that asks you to sit with it rather than chase it anywhere. the arrangement is all texture and restraint, layering things in a wonderfully floaty, indie way. musically, it settles into a beautifully juxtaposed blend of indie, dream pop and a generous dose of folk too. but who cares what boxes it fits in, when the song kicks off in its' final section, it turns into a beautiful unhurried gem.
the graceland conspiracy are a belfast based dream-pop project led by colin crooks, whose history runs through northern ireland's noisier corners with pbr streetgang and bad noise monster. the lineup pulls together musicians who've crossed paths repeatedly through the local scene: paul wilkinson on guitar, gary taylor on drums, jon mckinley on brass, and mcmahon on vocals. wilkinson and mcmahon previously played together in country-rock outfit jackson cage, while crooks and wilkinson shared time in the dollybyrds. we'd love to hear more from this lot, it's fab.
thank u for making this the graceland conspiracy 🌫️
