introvertbright and morning star – baby tapir
The verdict
“baby tapir crafts a shimmering, open-ended art pop gem that rewards every listen with something new”
'bright and morning star' unfolds beautifully. the man behind the music, beck, handles every instrument, every layer of recording and mixing, and that solitary focus shows in how deliberately each element lands. it's experimental and also accessible enough to pull you in, elusive enough to keep revealing itself. the arrangement builds with a kind of gorrilaz-adjacent vocal, synths and melodic lines weaving into something that feels a bit like cosmic, indie disco. it's a gorgeous track.
baby tapir is the solo project of beck, and i love the slight incongruity baked into the sound: indie rock bones dressed in art pop textures, melodies that feel familiar yet slip away when you try to pin them down. 'bright and morning star' dropped on september 25th as an original single, another step in a catalogue that resists easy categorisation. we're completely taken with it, and will be digging into the rest of the baby tapir stuff eagerly.
thank u for making this baby tapir 🌟
