light it up tonight is a danceable, guitar driven pop rock track that carries real bite beneath its groove. melodically, it really shines, with the song being built around a driving, insistent beat, with a great blend of electric guitars too. the bridge drops into something darker, weighed down by the pain of days gone by even as the lyrics push toward possibility. it’s a song that holds hope and loss in the same hand, and by the time the third chorus comes around, it really does soar.
cael anton is a canadian composer, singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer who blends vintage blues and rock roots with bold electronic exploration. his experience scoring for film and video games shows up in how light it up tonight is built, cinematic but still grounded in classic rock. his second album, last night in the city, just dropped, and anton is clearly only getting started. it’s an ambitious piece, and we really love it.

melinda joy and son of cormack turn irish coastline romance into a wistful beauty.
out of the blue is a whimsical, romantic song and short film shot on location across west cork, kerry, wicklow and dublin. it started as a poem melinda joy wrote about the rugged irish coastline, then grew into a song with son of cormack and finally a full music video, tracing the uncertain, hopeful feeling of new love and the pull toward a life that’s wilder and freer. the visuals have already picked up awards for best music video, best original song and best music, and it’s easy to see why.
melinda joy is an austin based singer-songwriter and bass player whose poetic lyrics often start life as standalone poems, and son of cormack is a british singer-songwriter with irish and scottish roots who’s had singles played on bbc introducing. the pair recently wrapped a summer tour through the uk and europe, including two slots at stourjam and a stop at the berlin music video awards. both are working on solo albums next, so watch this space.

robbie mangiardi turns quiet depression into a patient, aching moment.
crack of light is a patient, five minute meditation on depression, isolation and the pride that keeps us saying “i’m cool” when we’re not. produced and drummed by martin flores, with rene camacho on bass and neil rosengarden on keys, the track lets the lyric take its time, moving from a man half facing himself in the mirror to a wider look at loneliness in all its forms. it was named song of the month at americana highways, and it earns every bit of that praise.
robbie mangiardi spent years writing quietly while life moved in other directions, pulling from the rolling stones, joni mitchell and mississippi john hurt along the way. he’s been clean for almost 25 years, and his first formal release, the people you love, reached the top ten on the american roots report americana chart. crack of light finds him just as unhurried and honest as ever, writing at his own pace and letting each song settle before it’s ready.

luke martin turns cinematic heartbreak into an anthemic belter.
superstar is a big, guitar driven indie pop track built for headphones and the stage in equal measure, blending raw guitars with cinematic storytelling. it’s part of martin’s debut ep, roll sound, roll camera, written as four chapters of a film tracing the rise and fall of a relationship, and superstar captures one of its most soaring, hopeful scenes.
luke martin is a new wave indie pop artist from east london, drawing on sam fender, fontaines d.c. and coldplay for his raw guitars and anthemic choruses. before going solo he fronted the repertoire, a band that earned support from bbc introducing and amazing radio while selling out camden assembly and bush hall. his new ep was recorded and produced by grammy nominated edd hartwell, and it’s a strong start to what feels like a bigger story. we’re staying tuned, luke.
