black is the new black leans into classic indie-guitar rock with strong melodic writing, tight arrangements and a standout rhythm section that keeps things grooving along with a loads of attitude. its sound nods to the 80s and 90s heyday of indie-rock, but the song carries more than enough bite and polish to feel very much in the present.
ghost moon echo are a guitar-led band with deep roots in rock craft, featuring longstanding members connected to german cultural icon nina hagen’s band. written and produced by singer and guitarist warner poland, the release brings together marcellus puhlemann on drums, steven ney on bass and moritz von herder on guitar. it’s quite the combo, and ends up somewhere very special; lean, melodic and groovy as hell. a fantastic single.

detached – grekula
grekula turns the passing of time into beautifully atmospheric, emotionally charged rock stunner
detached is a piano-led rock track with a heavy introspective pull, built around mood, space and the feeling of memories losing their shape. mathias thijssen’s piano work gives the song its emotional foundation, adding depth to grekula’s reflection on distance, growth and the strange unreality of past versions of ourselves. ‘i thought i always knew myself, but is it someone else? ‘ hits hard, and this one definitely stops you in your tracks.
grekula is a multi-instrumentalist from tampere, finland, recording from his own small studio space and often playing most instruments himself. influenced by the soul-bearing intensity of greg dulli, afghan whigs and twilight singers, this release marks a more personal and slightly different turn in his catalogue. it is intimate, carefully textured and strong in its honesty. but most of all? it’s a brilliant single.

slipp’n away – den edie
den edie brings that old punk character into a stunningly raw, reflective rock banger
slipp’n away is a banger of a rock track with bags of attitude, opening with snarling vocal before diving into a story of youthful longing, pride and missed connection. like all good rock though, there’s a great melody at the heart of the song, and it’s delivered well. the drum part gives the song a big ol’ drive, while the guitar carries the rocking ache of something real slipping out of reach.
den edie is a summerville-based artist with roots in the late 90s punk and metal scenes, now shaping that edge into a more direct rock sound. written in 1997 about cassandra from algebra class, the song remained with him for decades before being recorded in his private studio. it turns an old memory into something still alive, rebellious and relatable. and rather than wondering what cassandra’s doing these days, let’s just enjoy this absolute banger.

stale jan turns resistance into a high-voltage modern rock anthem for summer 2026
i don’t bend is a driving modern rock track built on pounding guitars, razor-edged lyrics and a chorus that honestly lands like a battle cry. it carries a controlled melodic confidence beneath the force, turning pressure, noise and manipulation into something rhythmic, defiant and ready to be shouted back. melodically it’s a great, with a real craft to the song and its build. and build it does, into an utterly compelling chorus with just enough toughness to keep things going.
stale jan is an indie-rock creative from norway with a stadium-sized instinct and a sharp sense of catharsis. this release stands against mob mentality, manufactured truth and the demand to fold under control. with alt-pop pull, modern rock weight and a clear refusal at its core, it feels like a statement for anyone choosing composure over surrender. its also one of our favourite alt-rock tracks this year so far.
