TODAY’S INDIE PICKS

today’s indie picks are a rich mix of expansive songwriting and forward-thinking production, spanning the edges of folk, alternative, and singer-songwriters. most importantly? we love them all.

the perfect rose – ziemba

ziemba delivers a sweeping, emotionally rich folk epic that expands with strikes all our chords

the perfect rose opens with a gentle piano base before unfolding into wonderfully layered cellos and swelling guitars, creating a sense of forward motion and scale. it’s produced like a dream – and has all the immersive and searching vibes we need from folk-leaning indie. a particular shout out to the snare drum in this, which is just absolutely perfect, but the song itself is the real standout.

ziemba, the project of los angeles-based songwriter rené kladzyk, returns with a piece shaped by movement and reflection. drawing from personal transition and long-distance travel, this release introduces themes of freedom and instability, capturing a tension between escape and grounding. our verdict? it’s one of our favourite singles i’ve heard this year.

zióna maré-laveaux shapes a hypnotic and immersive sound that feels both personal and expansive

fold me like sunday is built around atmospheric textures and pulsing sub-bass rhythms, blending soft vocal lines with deeper, resonant production that really shines. it’s got a lovely steady, hypnotic energy, balancing lightness and intensity across its runtime.

zióna maré-laveaux, a louisiana creole artist, introduces her self-defined sound world through this release. rooted in identity and transformation, the track reflects a broader creative vision that merges cultural influence with futuristic design, positioning this as both a statement piece and an entry point into a wider sonic landscape. it’s great, and we’re looking forward to hearing more.

glam sam and his combo with angelina craft a smoky, groove-led track filled with depth and feeling

fingertips leans into a slow-burning groove, a tasty bass line, with soft jazz instrumentation, spoken word elements and subtle psychedelic guitar textures. it’s a heady mix, but definitely hangs together wonderfully, building an intimate yet expansive vibe with it’s layered, late-night atmosphere.

glam sam and his combo, led by stockholm producer mats samuelsson, join forces with uk singer-songwriter angelina to create a deeply personal piece. shaped as a tribute and grounded in storytelling, the collaboration highlights a balance between structured groove and raw vocal expression, reflecting a natural creative chemistry. big tune.

on reality – tabitha zu

tabitha zu capture a raw, driving indie energy that we can’t get enough of

on reality hits with immediate impact, driven by gritty guitars and a restless rhythm section that’s very together but with a lovely, chaotic edge. the track balances a healthy dose of noise and melody – has a smidge of the wedding present – and this must have been an absolute stunner live.

tabitha zu, emerging from the early 90s uk alternative scene, deliver a snapshot of a vital moment in indie history. fronted by melanie garside, the band built their reputation through intense live performances, and this release reflects that energy, reconnecting their sound with a new audience while retaining its original urgency. a real banger, and i hope they release more.
