break in – alex winters
alex winters delivers a powerful alt rock release balancing vulnerability with grit
break in opens with a strummy guitar-led foundation before building into a fuller, hook-driven alt rock sound. the vocal is genuinely affecting here, and the chorus really lands, with production flourishes giving the track a real sense of lift. it’s produced incredibly well, with some fantastic supporting guitar work, and there’s an impressive hint of classic morissette here.
alex winters is an austin-based artist shaped by a turbulent early life, and this track reflects that journey with honesty and strength. as part of an ongoing series of releases, it explores the difficulty of letting people in, capturing both fear and openness through a polished yet personal sound. it’s brilliant.

nightlight – rivermind
rivermind blend dark intensity with soaring melodies on this brilliantly immersive alt rock cut
nightlight is driven by a huge drums, distorted bass pulse and textured guitars that create a immediate late night drive atmosphere. this is a really, really well written song, with cleverly crafted verse chorus structure and a fantastic dark, post punk vibe. it’s got a weird staccato mid section that really works too.

live in colors deliver a bold and expansive progressive rock statement full of depth
pieces of fairytales moves through a tasty set of intricate arrangements and shifting dynamics, combining heavy instrumentation with some lovely melodic passages. this one’s a journey guys, and i’m very much here for the ride. there’s bags of cinematic weight, crunching guitars and i love the musicianship on show here. it will keep you guessing til the final bar.

shine – the yum yum tree
the yum yum tree deliver one of the best singles we’ve heard this year in this warm, cutting fuzzy rock banger
the yum yum tree do not mess about getting right into things with ‘shine’. it’s a bit rem, a bit 50s rock and a lot good. built around bright guitar lines and a steady rhythmic drive. the production is just the right amount of fuzzy to make my heart flutter by the time the chorus hits at the 20 second mark. yes you read that right. it’s brilliant.
the yum yum tree are an atlanta-based band with a long-standing presence in the indie rock space, and this release continues their return with clarity and intent. their songwriting has that indie vulnerability and self reflection that we love, exploring personal growth and the complexity of relationships with a direct and thoughtful approach. one of the best singles we’ve heard this year.
