don’t hand it down – born here studio

The verdict

“born here studio delivers a brilliant, anthemic folk pop call for peace without surrender in 'don't hand it down'”

'don't hand it down' opens with a warmth that belies its weight. jack duff's vocals carry the song through verses that sit somewhere between confession and plea, asking why old hatred still gets handed to children who never asked for it. the production from jorge perez marr builds toward a chorus big enough to fill a festival field, all modern irish folk-pop shimmer with real emotional heft underneath. it's a song born from watching belfast come together at the fleadh, grannies and grandas and kids from every background sharing the same city, the same music. there's no finger-wagging here, no lecture. just a question asked plainly: can we be proud of who we are without teaching the next generation to hate someone else? it's a brilliant, big-hearted anthem that earns every note of its chorus.

born here studio is the independent music project of belfast songwriter ciara, who writes the lyrics and melodies and then brings in singers and producers to complete each track. there's no fixed sound. some releases lean into irish folk, others into contemporary pop, but all are built around stories that matter. releases under this name have already passed a million streams and found their way into limerick's gaa celebrations. the project has also launched an interactive world map alongside this single, inviting people everywhere to share what they refuse to pass on. we love it.

thank u for making this born here studio 🕊️
