TODAY’S POP PICKS

today’s pop picks move through dreamy alt-pop, emotional synth-pop, atmospheric disco and dark sci-fi electronics. these four tracks turn longing, nightlife and imagined worlds into rich, melodic escapes.

make you come alive – torched porsche

torched porsche turns artistic obsession into a dreamy, bass-heavy alt-pop banger

make you come alive blends a heady mix of deep 808 bass, electronic beats, shimmering guitar delays and lush synths beneath smooth, intimate vocals. i love the production on this, and it kinda feels dreamy but grounded, using its polished production to tell the compelling, romantic story of a sculptor whose creation becomes real.

torched porsche is a toronto-based producer and songwriter introducing his forthcoming album art lovers with this debut single. recorded in his home studio, the song reflects ideas of beauty, permanence, perfection and the way art allows one idea to create another. shaped over years of beat-making and lyric writing, it opens a wider project where every track explores a different art form while asking what remains meaningful in an impermanent world. this is exactly the type of pop we need in 2026, and we’re very excited for what’s next for torched porsche.

it’s over – fiche

fiche turns that emotional overload into an urgent, glittering synth-pop banger

it’s over is a sharp synth-pop debut built around warm electronics, pounding drums and a polished surface carrying a much heavier emotional pull. its 80s-inspired textures feel cinematic and immediate, balancing driving rhythm with the moment when longing becomes too crowded to hold. it bursts out the speakers this one, and has a wonderful epic feel.

fiche is the solo project of austrian drummer, producer and mixing engineer max zauner, known from bands including kitty in a casket, elsa and greyshadow. this release opens a new side of his work, combining a producer’s precision with the instinct of a songwriter who knows when something no longer fits. detailed but still raw enough to connect, it makes heartbreak feel physical, modern and ready for the night. essential stuff.

nights machine – de fans

de fans serve up an atmospheric disco banger that’s warm, elegant and built to last

nights machine unfolds through a steady groove, soft textures and a restrained emotional current that gives its disco pulse real depth. the track creates a calm but energised night-time world, balancing a taste of the nostalgic with enough modern production to make it genuinely lift off. it’s a reminder that disco is pretty much the best genre, and the melody here delivers that reminder in style.

de fans is a project shaped by german artist and producer däh de, whose wider work includes several international disco and pop-focused releases. rather than chasing quick impact, he builds around flow, atmosphere and lasting connection, letting classic influences meet a clean contemporary approach. the result feels made for late drives, dim rooms and repeat listens, carrying positive energy with an understated sense of confidence. an essential disco track this june.

breathe in the light – paper swords

paper swords opens a widescreen, dark sci-fi universe through wonderfully cinematic electronic pop

breathe in the light brings indie electronic dark pop into a cinematic space shaped by tension, atmosphere and visual imagination. the track feels like the opening scene of something much larger, using immersive production to introduce a world where emotion and science fiction move together. it also grooves along in style, and i love the dark disco rhythmic approach; it’s fantastic.

paper swords is the project of wyoming artist phil black, who has spent six years building this music and visual story universe. the narrative follows an engineer searching for his lost wife after an experiment opens a portal into another dimension, giving the release a strong sense of purpose beyond the song itself. with 3d visuals, future chapters and live performances planned, it’s an exciting to hear from an artist genuinely pushing things forward. an essential listen this week.
