mattock cleverly bring together americana grit and expansive indie songwriting into a brilliant new single
lil’ busted fox moves between hypnotic rhythms, spiky and rough-edged guitar work and spacious folk-rock textures as mattock lean into a sound that feels both nostalgic and unpredictable. there is a looseness to the arrangement that gives the track its momentum, while the songwriting sharp and focused. this is produced very, very well and has just enough room sound to give it a lot of character. the playing is fantastic too.
mattock are an americana-rock project from southern maryland formed by longtime collaborators casey brandt and jason fletcher. shaped by years inside punk, indie and classic rock scenes, the duo channel decades of experience into songs that feel lived-in and adventurous, continuing the path established on their debut album songs about birds. this is a fantastic single, and i’ll be digging into their whole catalogue this week.

devan introduces a raw and grounded songwriting style in ‘wyatt earp’; a single that’s full of heart and honesty

the agency… deliver a dark and cinematic indie stunner filled with bags of tension and atmosphere
past promise unfolds through brooding guitars, restrained vocals and slow-building intensity as the agency… explore intimacy, identity and emotional distance. i really like the very slightly talk talk-esque vibe on show here, but it grows into something different and equally as compelling. it gradually expands into heavier territory while maintaining a sense of lovely sadness that is honestly really fun to dip your toe into it.
the agency… are an alt-indie collective from newcastle upon tyne known for blending post-rock, folk and gothic influences into immersive soundscapes. led by steven k driver, the group continue to build emotionally detailed releases that explore modern disconnection and human fragility, with past promise standing out as one of their most immediate and affecting tracks yet. it’s a banger.
