TODAY’S POP PICKS

a rich mix of late-night synthpop, laid back hip-hop and emotionally driven songwriting lands in today’s pop picks. every one hits though, in their own special way.

fire in rain – aurealis

aurealis crafts a glowing synthpop escape filled to the brim with big emotions

fire in rain is all about those shimmering synth lines, big emotional chords, with layered vocals and glowing electronic textures. it’s got that lovely warm summer late-night atmosphere running throughout, and – like all great pop music – it does a fantastic job at balancing that bittersweet emotion with uplifting energy. this one’s pure windows down, driving at sunset, feeling wonderfully expansive without losing its intimacy.

aurealis leans fully into cinematic electronic pop here, blending emotional songwriting with immersive production. following the darker tones of previous releases, this single opens into something brighter and more hopeful while still carrying the depth and reflection that defines the project’s sound. it’s a real standout pop moment this month, and we absolutely love it.

thank u for making this aurealis 💖

kickback – the fods & night wolf

the fods and night wolf team up to deliver a ‘trip pop’ stunner with real vintage warmth

kickback blends chilled trip hop grooves with marimba flourishes and relaxed, loose groovy energy across a track that’s literally all about the late evening drives and slow summer vibes. the intro is great, i love the cello, and the production is really tasteful. it’s not all smoothness though, it’s definitely got a punch to it that has me reaching for the repeat button to do it all again.

friend of the blog the fods & night wolf come together for their first collaboration after connecting through radio, rebuilding the original track into a refreshed banger. the release kinda moves away from darker production choices and instead leans into hopeful songwriting and a more open, accessible sound. it definitely lands with us, it’s fantastic and we look forward to hearing what else they can cook up.

thank u for making this the fods & night wolf 🌙

phenomenal woman – russell thomas

russell thomas delivers a heartfelt stunner of a tribute filled with love, memory and sincerity

phenomenal woman carries a great, emotional warmth through soft melodic production and reflective songwriting centred around gratitude and remembrance. the track keeps its focus on honest feeling, allowing the sentiment behind every lyric to land naturally and without excess. it’s got a great groove, and the vibe is strong. and honestly, what better tribute can there be? mum’s are great.

originally from st. lucia, russell thomas wrote the song more than two decades ago before finally bringing it to release after the passing of his mother. with help from his producer, the track now stands as both a personal dedication and a wider celebration of mothers everywhere. it’s a fantastic track, and reminds us all what’s important in life.

thank u for making this russell thomas ❤️

nightshift – rimarki

rimarki delivers a smooth late-night rap cut built on a brilliantly mellow mood and easy confidence

nightshift blends a tasty mix of hazy neo-soul textures, laid back beats and found sounds into a track designed for reflective late-night listening. it’s got an absolute groove of a bassline, and the production is great. the standout are the lyrics though, and the conversational delivery builds something genuinely lovely here. damn, it reminds me how much i dislike nightshifts too.

bristol artist rimarki leans into understated hip-hop influences here, creating a single that feels personal, unforced and easy to replay. with a focus on mood and simplicity over excess, nightshift captures the kind of relaxed energy that fits perfectly. we really love this, and can’t wait for what comes next.

thank u for making this rimarki 🌃
