TODAY’S INDIE PICKS

today’s indie picks moves between blurred indie rock urgency, melancholic pop textures and introspective songwriting. from cinematic slow-builders to sharp-edged guitar tracks, these new releases balance atmosphere with immediacy while keeping emotion front and centre.

rumours – televised mind

televised mind channel restless indie punk energy into a wonderfully sharp and emotionally charged banger

rumours crashes in with wiry guitars, livewire rhythms and a beautifully raw vocal delivery that gives the track that standout melody it deserves. it’s all tight, wonderfully played and it all just kinda rocks. gordon raphael’s production is fantastic, as you’d expect, but it’s the force of the band and the craft of the song which makes this truly zing.

televised mind are building serious momentum out of lincoln with a sound shaped by classic british indie rock and modern post-punk intensity. the single captures themes of healing, identity and emotional survival without losing its punch. they feel like a band who’ve got a sound, an identity but also are following their instincts. this is a combo we’re very excited and will be watching these lads very closely. it’s a banger.

thank u for making this televised mind 🖤

leave me in the dark – secret treehouse

secret treehouse craft a shimmering indie pop stunner with emotional weight and late-night atmosphere

leave me in the dark pairs a wonderfully melodic hooks with tasteful, soft electronic textures and bittersweet guitar lines that gradually unfold into something a little heavier underneath. the contrast between the song’s uplifting pulse and darker lyrical themes gives the track a really compelling feel. the production is fantastic, and i’d love to see this live. but for me, it’s the great melodies at it’s heart which make it a real banger.

secret treehouse are a bergen, norway indie band blending dreamy guitar pop, electronic textures and introspective songwriting into their signature scandinavian happy-sad sound. the band’s latest release explores obsession, manipulation and emotional dependency while holding onto a sense of release and movement throughout. it’s a brilliant indie pop single and i hope we get a lot more of them from secret treehouse this year.

oh my god – don drapery

don drapery turns spiralling thoughts into a beautifully sharp and addictive indie anthem

oh my god rides in on fun samples, a touch of anxious energy which blends punchy indie rock hooks with warm synth textures and restless lyricism. the track balances humour and tension brilliantly, allowing the chorus to land with immediacy while the phoenix-esque production is genuinely great. it’s really crisp and one of the standouts of this track; the other being the vocals and the hook at the heart of the song, it’s great.

don drapery is the solo project of columbus, ohio songwriter jason turner, whose latest material leans into vulnerability and self-awareness without losing its melodic edge. taken from the upcoming project something worth repeating, oh my god explores overthinking, emotional exhaustion and the absurdity of spiralling thoughts through a track that feels both deeply personal and instantly relatable. it’s a brilliant single, more of this please don.

thank u for making this don drapery ✨

the sword – nemesis uncle

nemesis uncle creates a beautifully haunting, cinematic folk-rock wonder filled with atmosphere

the sword unfolds through dark acoustic textures, sparse percussion and slow-building instrumentation that gives the track an lovely kinda scary but beautiful and hypnotic presence. it all feels carefully placed, creating an immersive atmosphere where the song’s mysterious storytelling and shadowy mood can really take effect. my fave is the lyrics though, and the ‘why don’t you seek?’ mantra is great.

nemesis uncle is the forest of dean, england project of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist darren purvis, whose music blends folk, experimental rock and cinematic western influences into something distinctive and transportive. the sword follows a disillusioned pilgrim searching for meaning, and the result is genuinely stunning. i really love this single, and will be digging into the rest of their stuff.

thank u for making this nemesis uncle 🌲
