TODAY’S POP PICKS

today’s pop picks move through open-hearted americana, social reflection, vulnerable indie-pop and sincere love-led songwriting. these four tracks keep melody close while turning personal moments into wider emotional release.

patio door – alana silver

alana silver turns a california ending into warm, expansive indie-pop beauty

patio door began as a two-chord meditation and has grown into a warm indie-folk and americana-leaning pop track with a clear emotional pull. built from genuinely tender songwriting, live musicianship and a sense of late-night honesty, it’s just got the vibe of a memory being opened carefully. the fact it’s an early release for silver provides the most excitement, and the track is put together in such a compelling way that we’re hooked.

alana silver wrote the song during her first year in california, while facing a long-distance relationship she knew might not survive. later shaped with john mccann and completed at studio rd in las vegas with producer alexander martella, it became both a love song to california and a farewell to a defining period of change. its strength is in the way it turns uncertainty into light. a real beauty this week.

thank u for making this alana silver 🌅

county lines – 50mething

50mething turns social darkness into sharp, thought-provoking pop storytelling for summer 2026

county lines is a layered pop track that asks listeners to sit with its meaning rather than giving everything away at once. written with a clean lyrical approach, some wonderfully lines, and 50something’s trademark off kilter pop-adjacent production style. despite difficult subject matter, it moves with a restrained intensity, using its narrative weight to make the land beautifully. it’s also very, very groovy.

friend of the blog 50mething is an ealing-based artist working independently from writing through to the mix and master stage. people like this always make us lean in; their ability to build an entire world themselves. this one’s recorded at home, inspired by the film of the same name and looks at young children being exploited by gangs to carry contraband. it is a serious, careful piece of storytelling about vulnerability, manipulation and the choices people only understand fully when looking back. we love this.

thank u for making this 50mething 🧭

i don’t know myself – nicole issa

nicole issa turns chronic pain and self-recognition into a beautiful indie-pop moment

i don’t know myself is a stripped-back piano ballad with layered, immersive backing vocals and a vocal performance that sits right at the centre. the track unfolds carefully like a confession, building in intensity as its repeated title shifts from disconnection towards the beginning of self-understanding. the production is fantastic here, kind of muted and slightly out there, but still lands the vibe wonderfully. issa’s vocal is the main event here, and with good reason. it’s a brilliant vocal, and an even better song.

nicole issa is a south-west sydney indie-pop singer-songwriter whose work moves through love, heartbreak and self-discovery with real tenderness. written after a post-surgery check-up for endometriosis, this release explores chronic illness, body image, medical dismissal and intergenerational trauma. created with andrew meyer and bri clark, it is her most vulnerable single to date, offering honesty, release and the hope of learning how to love the body again. a big wow moment for us this week.

thank u for making this nicole issa 🕯️

letting you back in – kirex

kirex turns forgiveness and second chances into a sincere, heartfelt pop highlight this month

letting you back in is a heartfelt pop song built around simple emotion, direct melody and the idea of opening the heart again. shaped by questions of love, forgiveness and reconciliation, the track carries an earnest spirit that keeps the message clear and easy to connect with. it grows with care, pulling on the heart strings, before exploding into one of the biggest pop choruses we’ve heard this side of eurorvision. it’s loads of fun.

kirex is a solo artist from rogašovci, slovenia, writing alone with what he describes as a spirit of love. inspired by ed sheeran, he balances music with family life, hospital work and the motivation to keep growing as an independent artist. as one of his earliest songs, this release captures the courage of giving love a second chance and turning personal values into something warm, open and sincere. we’ll be closely following what kirex does next.

thank u for making this kirex 💛
