TODAY’S ROCK PICKS

today’s rock picks leans into soaring indie hooks, restless alternative energy and raw guitar-driven emotion. from reflective britpop textures to full-throttle resistance anthems, these tracks bring plenty of movement and character.

no returning – mosh pit

mosh pit channel pure frustration into a fierce and relentless alternative rock banger

no returning hits hard from the off with sludgy, punchy riff. backed up with driving rhythms and a brilliant vocal, serves up a restlessness and urgency that drives this whole thing along in style. the ‘they always win’ refrain before heading back into the verse is my favourite, and it somehow manages to balances chaos and control brilliantly.

mosh pit lean further into a direct and emotionally charged alternative rock sound here, rejecting polished expectations in favour of something far more immediate. lyrically the release pushes back against conformity and the pressure to fit in, but most of all, it’s a banger and impossible not to hit replay right away. essential rock this month.

thank u for making this mosh pit 🔥

i recall – point pleasant

point pleasant deliver a nostalgic indie rock stunner packed with warmth and northern heart

i recall moves between atmospheric verses and soaring choruses with ease, built around lovely melodic riffs, overdrive tones and an unmistakable live-band energy. there’s a classic warm britpop feel to it which lines up nicely with the danceable lift that the drums and bass serve up. lyrically, it’s sitting in an interesting place between regret, optimism and hope. cos life’s a bit like that, isn’t it?

point pleasant are a glasgow and newcastle-based five-piece drawing from classic britpop and early 2000s indie influences while keeping their sound fresh and modern. as a debut release, i recall feels like a really strong introduction to a band already comfortable balancing grit, melody and emotional clarity. we’re very much looking forward to the follow up, as this one’s great.

thank u for making this point pleasant 🎸

on new horizons – pjd

pjd crafts a wonderfully ambitious alternative rock experience filled with hope and forward motion

on new horizons isn’t your regular rock tune, it blends electronic and industrial elements, soaring guitar work, bright synths and a compelling vocal approach. all sitting on top of a almost reggae-like shuffle, which builds into something atmospheric and ambitious. we get all sorts in our musical mystery postbag, and it’s always good to hear new music that’s genuinely in its own lane.

birmingham artist pjd handles every aspect of the project himself, from instrumentation and vocals to production, bringing years of session experience into a genuinely solo release. the single introduces his album a new religion and captures themes of searching for something better beyond the horizon. it’s compelling stuff, and you should definitely check it out here.

thank u for making this pjd 🌌

orion – prem byrne

prem byrne creates a soulful and beautifully textured rock-folk crossover moment for spring

orion wraps a tasteful acoustic instrumentation around beautifully lush electronic textures, creating a wonderfully calm and really melodic atmosphere. the production on this is a dream, with soft guitar work and bansuri flourishes giving the track a warmth that sits naturally alongside its reflective vibe. the standout is the vocal and songcraft here though, it’s genuinely beautifully put together, and extra points for a good old fashioned middle eight (that really works).

woodacre artist prem byrne continues building a sound that moves between folk, rock and pop influences while keeping emotional connection at the centre of the music. inspired by ideas of trust and reassurance, orion feels both intimate and expansive at the same time. it’s a brilliant single, and an instant spotify follow for me.

thank u for making this prem byrne ✨
