TODAY’S INDIE PICKS

it’s thursday, a perfect time for some textured indie, with a bit of stripped emotion, hazy atmospheres and storytelling that cuts close. from acoustic confessionals to dreamlike indie explorations, these tracks carry a sense of depth without losing their immediacy.

vacant (acoustic) – terminal fear

terminal fear strip things back to deliver a raw and affecting acoustic confessional

vacant (acoustic) opens with bare acoustic guitar and a close, unfiltered vocal that pulls you straight into its emotional core. the minimal setup lets the narrative breathe, with subtle melodic shifts and spoken word elements adding weight and intimacy. vocally it’s great, a real unique mix of rap, sea shanty and folk that i don’t think we’ve heard before.

terminal fear are based in winchester, england, blending a mix of influences into narrative-driven releases. this version reimagines an earlier track in a more exposed setting, focusing on themes of redemption and self realisation while reinforcing their commitment to honest, story-led songwriting. essential stuff.

thank u for making this terminal fear 🙏

orwellian times – lana crow

friend of the blog lana crow delivers a stunningly sharp and immersive indie reflection on modern disconnection

orwellian times unfolds with layered indie textures and a steady rhythmic pulse, balancing atmospheric production with a direct vocal line. the track builds gradually, with a smidge of 90s alt rock combined with alluring mix of subtle synth tones and shifting dynamics to mirror its sense of unease and awareness. it’s great.

friend of the blog lana crow is a british singer-songwriter exploring the complexity of the modern human experience, and this track captures a moment of realisation within that journey. rooted in observation and introspection, it reflects on collective conditioning and the wider world with clarity and intention. it’s a sharp commentary on our times, and we love it.

undercover – anette ähdel

anette ähdel crafts a compelling, shadowy indie cut that blurs identity and emotional distance

undercover moves through a sparse, pulse-driven arrangement, where muted beats and distorted textures create a sense of tension beneath the surface. the track shifts between restraint and release, with the vocal sitting low and controlled against the darker sonic edges. i love the late 80s vibe in this, and it’s got a lovely billy idol feel.

anette ähdel leans into a noir-inspired world, shaped by themes of identity, visibility and withdrawal. rooted in urban isolation, this release explores the space between truth and performance, capturing the push and pull of wanting to be seen while instinctively stepping back into the shadows. we love it.

thank u for making this anette ähdel 🖤

electric toothbrush – michelle sutton

michelle sutton delivers an beauutifully honest and disarming indie folk moment with sharp emotional detail

electric toothbrush centres on soft acoustic guitar and a conversational vocal that leans into vulnerability without overdoing it. small instrumental details and subtle shifts help underline the track’s emotional tension and dark humour. i really, really love the vocal production here, and as the song shuffles along, it really feels like you’re in the room.

friend of the blog michelle sutton is a sydney-based songwriter known for introspective and relatable writing, and this release deepens that approach. shaped by personal experience and chronic illness, it captures self doubt and honesty in a way that feels immediate and human, marking a clear step into a more exposed artistic space. it’s brilliant, and we hope michelle keeps releasing more this year.

thank u for making this michelle sutton 💫
