TODAY’S POP PICKS

today’s pop picks move through swedish electropop, orchestral heartbreak, atmospheric dream-pop and world-infused indie feeling. these four tracks turn closeness, longing and emotional change into rich, melodic moments.

magi – lotta svart

lotta svart turns closeness into a beautiful, shimmering and poetic electropop moment

magi introduces lotta svart’s new direction with a soft but pulsing electropop sound, built around atmospheric production, frankly beautiful ethereal vocal layers and intimate swedish-language lyrics. the track carries a dream-pop glow, moving between fragility, warmth and a gentle intensity that makes its emotional world feel close and immersive. the vocal’s the standout here and i love how carefully it sits in the song.

lotta svart is a finnish singer-songwriter and producer previously known from the early 2000s pop group i’dees and later tears apart. written and composed entirely by svart, and co-produced with sam sonntag, this release begins a four-track body of work unfolding through 2026. it captures the feeling of total safety with another person, where time softens, the body feels weightless and everything outside the moment disappears. there’s a lot to love here, and we can’t wait to hear more.

to be loved by you – mark andrew hansen

mark andrew hansen turns emotional neglect into sweeping orchestral pop stunner

to be loved by you begins with piano and grows into a lush orchestral pop ballad, led by jes hudak’s expressive vocal performance that’s genuinely stunning. the song has a deeply felt sense of yearning, using its arrangement to move from intimate reflection into something wide, cinematic and full of ache. ‘and i know now that it’s hard to be loved by you‘ really got me, and i’m a little weak at the knees by this one.

friend of the blog mark andrew hansen is a sydney-based writer and producer who shapes personal experience into emotional storytelling. written after a failed romantic relationship, the track reflects the pain of giving love and kindness without receiving the same care in return. recorded remotely during covid between hansen’s home studio and hudak’s studio in america, it turns distance into connection, with layered vocal takes forming a choir-like lift near the end. this is brilliant stuff, honestly.

issues – rylai

rylai turns heartbreak into intimate, minimalist r&b-pop

issues is a wounded r&b-pop track built around gentle acoustic strums, cold heavy bass and harmonies that rise like a breath returning. its minimalist soundscape keeps rylai’s voice close, letting the hurt of separation, confusion and emotional release sit at the centre.

rylai is a seoul-native artist whose background in physics feeds into his love of audio engineering, sound design and high-quality arrangement. now connected to los angeles and working closely with skyler cocco, he blends r&b, pop and indie instincts with a scientific ear for detail. the song looks back at a relationship and the painful realisation that someone once loved may never have been fully known.

the nile – dalinda

dalinda blends love, loss and heritage into a beautitful sweeping indie-pop statement

the nile marks a striking move into melancholic indie-pop, bringing live instrumentation, emotional storytelling and a world-infused bridge into one flowing shape. the track feels personal and expansive, using melody and texture to carry love and loss beyond language. i love the percussive elements in this track, and how it builds in a mysterious way. dalinda’s vocal gets the message across in style, it’s great.

dalinda is a uk-based artist born to bosnian parents and raised in libya, with a musical identity shaped by that multicultural heritage. after global attention with turquoise, crossover success in the middle east and collaborations across traditional, electronic and tribal sounds, this release opens a new chapter. produced alongside pete murray with zero samples, the song was inspired by her mother, whose portrait appears on the cover art, giving the track a deeply intimate emotional centre. a compelling piece, that we’ll definitely be hitting replay on this month.
