today’s pop picks bring together bright hooks, soulful left turns and cinematic emotional release. these four tracks move through romance, faith, seasonal chaos and the strange pull of connection.
bury me – elina filice
elina filice turns a stolen t-shirt into a huge alt-pop love story stunner
bury me is a triumphant alt-pop track with infectious rhythms, stuck-in-your-head melodies and a big emotional lift. it’s recorded with the grit i need with this kinda stuff, but it’s the melody at the heart of this nostalgic punk-pop stunner that stands out. it’s all energy meets modern pop detail, with the vibe of summer anthem with whole lot of heart underneath. the ‘you’re never gonna get it back’ refrain is great.
elina filice is a toronto-based singer-songwriter and storyteller whose music moves through soulful melody, blues influence and spoken-word sharpness. this release starts with an old molson canadian t-shirt taken by a past love, then opens into something deeper about the ordinary objects that hold our stories. it captures love, memory and queer visibility with heart, force and a whole lot of fun. it’s great.
thank u for making this elina filice 🌈
easter brunch – tim ellis
tim ellis turns holiday chatter into a sparkling, jazz-leaning sophisti-pop single
easter brunch is a bright sophisti-pop gem with a the best kind of relaxed groove, smart chords and a melodic lightness that suits its dry, affectionate humour. the track captures the easy warmth of a holiday gathering, with lead guitar from phil of st. divine adding texture and personality throughout. the lyricism in this is my favourite, it’s knowing but also has a real vibe too. not every tune in this style can do that, and it’s fantastic.
tim ellis is a brooklyn-based singer-songwriter, comedian and actor with a sharp ear for everyday rituals and seasonal feeling. the song comes from remember spring?, the fourth and final chapter in his songs of the seasons project, following soft serve summer, feeling autumnal and not another winter. shaped by wit, warmth and a playful pop intelligence, it makes the mundane feel genuinely memorable. it’s really fun, and we hope tim has more coming this year.
thank u for making this tim ellis 🌸
same stars – montana joanna
montana joanna brings alien romance into a wonderfully rich, soul-pop stunner
same stars is a groove-led soul-pop track with warm bass, live drums, horns, clavinet and jazz-flavoured vocals. produced like a dream, its old-school 60s and 70s feel gets a fresh kick from behind-the-beat syncopation, giving the song a lovely and loose swing without losing its pop shine. vocally montana’s the star of the show here, and there’s bags of character to this fantastic single.
montana joanna uses the release as the debut single for her solo project, putting her voice and bass playing right at the centre. the lyrics begin with the playful idea of meeting an alien and falling for them, before drifting into astrology, birth charts and the comforting thought that we are all made of stardust. recorded in albuquerque, it feels quirkily brilliant and we love it. an essential single this week.
thank u for making this montana joanna 🪐
the flame – fishburn
fishburn blends electronic pop lift with a faith-led emotional renewal to incredible effect
the flame is an uplifting electronic pop single built around cinematic textures, heartfelt vocals and a strong sense of spiritual reflection. featuring caroline brooks, the track moves between emotional honesty and bright production, turning faith, distance and redemption into a song with a clear, hopeful pulse. it’s a genuinely well-crafted song this one, and it builds into something very special in the chorus hook.
fishburn is an emerging christian contemporary and electronic pop artist from chicago, bringing decades of dj and dance music production experience into a faith-centred sound. written and produced by russ harris, the release introduces the upcoming bukra album project, which will unfold through originals, covers, remixes and acoustic versions. it aims for crossover reach while keeping renewal, hope and reconnection at its core. fishburn have a new fan over here at introvert disco, and we’re excited to hear what they do next.
