maybe i'm not – sbob

The verdict

“sbob turns personal confession into a brilliant, gut-punch of a britpop anthem, all hooks and heart from this scottish one-man band”

'maybe i'm not' opens with a verse that earns your trust before the chorus lands. sbob, working solo as ever, layers 80s and 90s rock influences into something that sits comfortably alongside a britpop banger, but the lyrics cut deeper than the sound suggests. it's described as his most commercial single yet, and that accessibility works in its favour. the emotive verses build through the bridges, and when that chorus hits it's exactly the gut punch promised. there's real craft in how the tension releases. it's a brilliantly put together track with bags of feeling.

sbob, also known as stuart stevenson, is based in ayr, scotland. he writes, performs, mixes and produces everything himself, working alongside local producer sam rae. before going solo he fronted glasgow band bob cuba and formed one half of stelar77, and that experience shows in how confident this material sounds. 'maybe i'm not' sits on the revelation ep, out now. it's a big track, and this guy's definitely on a run of form. let's hope it rolls through the winter and into next year.

thank u for making this sbob 🎸
