i will no longer be here – blessed child opera

The verdict

“blessed child opera's 'i will no longer be here' is a stunning post-punk meditation on solidarity and spiritual refusal”

'i will no longer be here' opens with tension that doesn't let go. it's a track built on contradiction: the ache of hoping for something better in a world that offers so little, and the defiance of refusing to play along anyway. the arrangement leans into a lovely, expansive, dark wave opus, guitars that lash and retreat, atmospheres thick, and paolo messere's voice threading through it all with worn conviction. it's also groovy, just to add to compelling mix. lyrically it's about performing enlightened acts without expecting anything back, about refusing to conform even when that's the easier path. it's a necessary spiritual quest dressed in post-punk clothes, and it lands with real weight.

blessed child opera is the long-running project of sicilian musician, singer and producer paolo messere, based in ragusa, italy. founded in 2001, bco has built a discography that spans lo-fi folk ballads, ghost-rock isolation and claustrophobic new wave across more than a dozen releases. after a six-year silence under the bco name, messere returned in march 2025 with 'red flags', a full album that brought the project back to its darkest instincts. this new single continues that thread, and we're definitely along for the ride.

thank u for making this blessed child opera 🌑
