TODAY’S POP PICKS

today’s pop picks move through shadowy confession, weightless electronic motion, heart-rush indie-pop and dark r&b armour. these four tracks turn desire, memory, connection and vulnerability into bold, atmospheric pop moments.

buried deep – strange divine

strange divine turn hidden emotion into a shadowy, cinematic pop stunner

buried deep is a skilfull, brooding alt-pop track built around dark chords, minimal production, and a cinematic sense of scale. melodically, it really works, and i love the lazy, dark drawl to the vocals here. there’s a smidge of the national, if they were a bit sadder and more electronic, but strange divine very much feel in their own lane. overall, it moves like a descent into the subconscious, holding tension in the space between what is confessed and what remains carefully hidden.

strange divine emerge from the industrial edges of birmingham with a debut single that refuses to over-explain itself. the track feels shaped by pressure, fracture and the clarity that can come from sitting with buried feeling. little is known about the project, but that mystery works in the song’s favour, letting atmosphere take the lead. it’s emotionally charged, difficult to shake and utterly compelling.

thank u for making this strange divine 🕯️

speeding highways – softdrink

softdrink turn late-night fragments into beautifully weightless electronic pop

speeding highways is a sleek synth-pop track built around restless breakbeats, weightless synths and a low-end that keeps everything moving forward. production-wise it’s compelling; crisp enough to be release ready but definitely way more interesting than your average synth stuff. it sits between headphones and the dancefloor, melodic without becoming sentimental, more post-club that club, and with a gooey sot emotional centre. in short, it’s great.

softdrink are the zurich duo of wim and yannick, shaped by years inside the city’s electronic music scene. their songwriting brings synth-pop, downtempo electronics and bass music into the same space, letting soft vocals, spacious arrangements and rhythmic detail share equal weight. as the first single from their debut album endless summer, the track unfolds through camera rolls, empty roads, cold water and late-night conversations. can’t wait for the album, because we’re addicted to this track.

outta nowhere – ellijai

ellijai turns unexpected love into a bright and fearless summer single

outta nowhere is a summer-lit indie-pop track with soaring vocals, shimmering guitars and a chorus that hits like love arriving when you were not looking for it. it’s got tonnes of character, especially in ellijai’s vocal, which is kinda full of wonderful heart-rush energy. musically it’s great, slighly off kilter pop, which turns hope, self-acceptance and connection into something brighter.

ellijai is a 17-year-old glasgow singer-songwriter already building a strong identity through guitar-led pop, live momentum and direct storytelling. there’s a little team involved here, recorded by ewan macfarlane at home, produced by ewan, mixed by ashley krajewski and mastered by chris pavey, the track is her third release of 2026. we’re not surprised there’s bbc introducing scotland support and growing live recognition, cos it’s fantastic. can’t wait for more!

thank u for making this ellijai ✨

full metal – space3ghxstx

space3ghxstx turns guarded love into a cinematic and dark r&b banger

full metal is a heavy hybrid trap and dark r&b track built around hypnotic 808s, gritty dystopian synths and haunting melodic vocals. it’s fuzzy, metallic and a beautifully intense experience, and kinda takes you into a real atmospheric experience. conceptually, the track deals with love, pain and inner conflict into something seductive, dangerous and emotionally armoured. it’s twists and turns take you somewhere unexpected and i’m definitely along for the ride.

space3ghxstx uses the track to explore vulnerability wrapped in protection, placing a wounded heart inside a cold neon world of luxury, cybertonka energy and heavy cinematic tension. the production hits with crushing low-end weight while still leaving room for dark melody and emotional detail. released through ballestas industries, full metal pushes deeper into genre-blending territory, building a sound where trap force, r&b feeling and dystopian pop drama collide. an essential track this month.
