sometimes an album arrives exactly when its creator is ready for it. dance again is that kind of record. after two decades away from making full-length albums, patti zlaket returns not with nostalgia, but with purpose. inspired by the legendary musicians in her community and encouraged by bassist lee sklar, she transforms what could have been a comeback into something far more meaningful, a celebration of perseverance, craft, and the belief that there is no deadline on dreams. produced by tariqh akoni and brought to life by an exceptional cast of session musicians, dance again feels wonderfully lived-in, carrying the warmth of classic singer-songwriter records while sounding completely at peace in the present. we’re super pleased to be able to feature it today.

clock keeps tickin’ opens with a radio-ready urgency, reflecting on time not as an enemy, but as a constant companion. i love the concept, and the groove settles effortlessly beneath zlaket’s expressive vocal, introducing a record that understands life isn’t measured by speed but by what we choose to do with the moments we’re given. it’s an elegant beginning, inviting listeners in with it’s fantastic chord changes and arrangement, ‘and i can’t walk away, but i can’t bear to stay’ really hits home.

i’ve got you slows things down a touch, heading into warmer territory. offering reassurance through rich melodies and effortless chemistry between voice and instrumentation. there’s a timeless quality here, and it’s tricky to tell what era this is from. it recals the golden era of west coast songwriting, but also has a lovely touch of 90s. this one has a fantastic chorus too, a hook that’ll definitely stay with you.

the title track, dance again, wastes no time in getting stuck in. it kinda feels like the emotional heart of the record. more than simply celebrating movement, it becomes a metaphor for rediscovering joy after years of silence. the production and sound world is genuinely fantastic, and there’s a very thoughtful arrangement to the song. this one’s a favourite over here at introvert disco.

let’s move on acknowledges that growth often begins with letting go. built around a touch more blues and groove in the piano and rhythmic arrangement, it’s a striking track. and the strings in the second verse? stunning. there’s definitely strength in its restraint, allowing emotion to unfold naturally instead of forcing dramatic conclusions. a great track.

closing track this is me rounds things off in style. cinematic in quality, and genuinely beautiful, it’s just great. after revisiting lost time, new beginnings, and enduring love, the album ends by embracing identity itself. there’s no need for dramatic finales here. instead, zlaket finishes with a little certainty, presenting herself exactly as she is, an artist whose voice has only grown richer with time.
