dog years deliver a stunning indie-rock jolt
play nice comes in all jangly and plaintive, a laid-back indie mood on the surface, but with a sense that something dark and heavy might be coming. it’s got that lovely pixies-adjacent feel without leaning too hard on it. the opening section features boy/girl harmonies that sit comfortably on top of scratchy guitars, giving is a nostaglic, almost school-like vibe. the track then tightens into a pretty intense breakdown, with end of days guitar lines that would make jonny greenwood proud.
dog years, based in newcastle, make music that thrives on contrast. it’s pop without the safety belt. it’s beatles-ish vocals with gale-force guitars. but most of all, it’s really great. and with their forthcoming album megafauna due next month, we’re really excited to hear more.
thank u for making this dog years ๐๐ค
