The Wave – Kallai

portland band kallai return with a scorcher

“the wave” crashes in with towering guitars, ethereal vocals and a rhythm section that never lets up. inspired by susan stryker’s writing on monstrosity and rage, it’s a shoegaze anthem that feels a little angry, but with a little of the ol’empowerment in there too.

cate hukle’s vocals haunt the mix, gliding above distortion in a stunning, cocteau twins kinda way. there’s defiance to it, and the sound of rising up.

produced with collin hegna (the brian jonestown massacre) and recorded in part at their own synthetikit studio, “the wave” marks the first taste of debut album we are forever, coming later this year. if this is the start, we’re in for something great.

thank u for making this x kallai
