beautifully crafted, captivating ep from bethany weimers
one of the best things about running a little music blog is hearing stuff you wouldn’t usually come across.
‘the story i breathe’ is one such release. it’s stunning. a beautifully crafted ep from a new voice to us – bethany weimers. with candlelit synths, haunted folk melodies, and a voice that you can tell just means it, we’re really glad it’s come our way.
music-y blog language aside, you can tell that there’s hurt here. it’s a captivating listen. written in the wake of a personal collapse, then dusted off with the help of lockdown reflections, a hannah peel nudge, and some serious diy resilience (which we love) – this ep feels like a snapshot of healing in progress. think florence (minus the machine), agnes obel on a loop, or pj harvey after a deep sigh.
‘heartbreaker police’ pulses like a bruised heartbeat. ‘tabula rasa’ is lullaby and lament all at once. and for us, the title track hits hardest – weirdly it reminds me a touch of the snowman soundtrack, and something else that i can’t place, but forget all that – it’s a fucking banger.
quietly epic, lovingly made, and beautifully personal.
thank u for making this bethany x
