some songs don’t just soundtrack a moment – they are the moment. ‘luv’ by gian achen lands with that kind of quiet confidence. it’s a song about love songs, and yeah, that sounds a bit meta, but somehow it manages to pull it off without being precious or overwrought. its got it’s heart on its sleeve, soft-edged and with that nice instagram filter that makes everything look better.
there’s a touch of old-school charm here – shades of the beatles, maybe a little nod to the warmth of wilco or the cactus blossoms. but it’s never stuck in the past. it just feels… familiar in the best way. good, well-written songs are sometimes just good, well-written songs.
also, shout out to the middle 8. not enough middle eights in music these days.
overall, ‘luv’ is the track you queue up when you’re half a beer down, talking about nothing with someone you like too much. it’s sweet, nostalgic and we love it.
thank u for making this gian achen x
