here’s our take on this is love & heartache, the new one from nick cody & the heartache – their ninth album, and the first to plug in fully.
you can tell straight away that this record’s wired in an interesting way. it’s rich with heart, but there’s a kinda grit there too. the title sounds like it could be a romance novel, but musically, it’s more renegade preacher in a leeds bar. big choruses, jangly riffs, and flashes of psychedelia keep things shifting under your feet.
nick’s got a knack for threading soul-searching lyrics with a wink of idealism. the arrangements don’t play it safe either – a ‘proper band feel’ that’s really live, and alive. we’re fans of the energy in this. great fucking guitar too.
there’s a bit of a mission running under the whole thing too – green eyed records, his label, is built on this idea of collaboration and creativity for its own sake. it shows. this isn’t just a set of songs – it feels not just like a great album, but a community project with a big heart.
thank u for making this nick cody & the heartache x
