Pick It Up – Miss Ricky

straight out of canada, this was a lovely little surprise in our mysterious post bag. we came across miss ricky’s new banger “pick it up” – a bold and lo-fi rnb and pop track for anyone tired of waiting around. armed with a voice that’s soft but no less direct, there’s a honesty and directness that we’re very much into here.

the best songs deliver one clear thought, in my eyes. and pick it up does just that. it’s a playful nudge to those who play too hard to get. miss ricky, who describes herself as introverted – and therefore literally perfect for our blog – flips the script here. “i don’t like playing games with people,” she says. “if you want me, you should pick it up and make a move.”

entirely self-written and produced, “pick it up” is the first taste of her upcoming album sounds at night, due later this year. the record promises a journey into the confidence to be loved properly.

you’ll hear the influence of summer walker, melanie martinez, and jhené aiko in the tone – but this is all miss ricky. vulnerable but in control, intimate but unafraid.

thank u for making this miss ricky, send us your next bangers please x
