Today’s musical postbag has thrown up a little delight.

There’s a rawness here that feels earned – the kind that only comes from 15 years in the trenches. Hamburg’s Blackbird Rebellion tap into tape-delay grit and grungey churn, but with a broader lens and some pretty damn sharp production.

Standout track Backfire is like Hüsker Dü caught up with post-2020 anxiety. The vocals feel scorched and resolute, guitars clatter in layers, and everything hits with intent. Proper, grown-up indie rock with dirt under its nails and a strong, beating heart.
